Lynx Aurora vs Digi 192

Posted on July 5, 2010

There has been plenty of good things written about the Lynx Aurora DA AD converter, and how it beats the pants off the Digidesign 192. After much deliberation, I had to find out myself, particularly as the Aurora 8 is a fair bit cheaper than the 192. I’ve had the Lynx for a week, and yet to fully test the unit for a full tracking and mix.
My initial impressions are that the Lynx does sound a bit more laid back than the 192, high frequencies a little bit silkier and less forward. But I’m not sure that this is a positive, just different. Stereo imaging is a bit wider, but again, I’m not sure this is going to make or break a track. I’m tracking with the Lynx on the weekend, so this should be more revealing.

Have you tried the Prismsound ADA-8XR with PTHD I/O?

Hmmm.. I suspect the Prismsound ADA-8XR would be top shelf in every regard, going on the reviews. I would love to get my hands on one to compare with the 192 and the Lynx. I’m not sure what the price is in oz dollars, but it would have to be around $15K. As the cornerstone of a pro studio, it’s probably good value, but possibly beyond the budget of most project studios.

I’ve read Prismsound and the local agent, CDA Pro Audio are having an August sale on ADA-8XR and they are offering 30% off. I got a quote on Friday for an ADA-8XR with PTHD I/O for $8030.00 inc GST!
